Gift ideas for Mothers Day in South Africa

Mothers Day is coming up soon. This year (2009) we’ll be celebrating Mother’s Day in South Africa on May 10th.

Most people need gift ideas for Mother’s Day, so i thought I would give a nice list of places you can and things you can buy online, or, at the very least, use to get ideas for your mother’s present for Mother’s Day. If you’d like to add to the list below, please feel free to add a comment at the bottom.

Just as a side note, all the links below open in new windows so that you can see them without leaving this page…

AudioBooks from Audible.com

I have been an EXTREMELY happy subscriber to Audible.com for about 4 years now. I first signed up when I found I had to travel from Johannesburg to Pretoria in peak hour traffic for training. I refuse to waste my time in traffic, and one way to do that is to “read a book while driving“. Of course, I don’t really read the book, it gets read to me.

My mother also listens to audiobooks, and I’ve bought her a couple of books over the years for her birthday. We don’t always have the same taste though 🙂

So, if you’re looking for a new type of gift to give your mom, consider audiobooks.

NetFlorist

NetFlorist is the company that I used to deliver flowers to my wife on Valentines day. They were one of the FEW companies that I’ve used that actually managed to deliver on the day they said they would. And, being Valentines Day, that was CRUCIAL! So I’m very happy with them.

Everyone knows that mothers love flowers, so if you’re thinking of getting some flowers with a gift delivered to your mom, try NetFlorist.

giftday

Next up is giftday. This is probably THE most comprehensive Gift service I’ve seen. And the fact that they cater for South African users is amazing. Their gifts range from Aromatherapy Massages, to flying Jet Fighter Planes and Parachute Jumps to Rally driving courses.

Of course, for your mother, you’re probably more likely going to want to look at their flower delivery services, or wine and food hampers, or even their “Mother & Daughter Spa Day“.

Magazine Subscriptions

A magazine subscription is a gift that I LOVE giving because it lasts the entire year.

One of the BEST reasons to give a magazine subscription as a gift is also the fact that it is so EASY to do so. You can just subscribe online, and then write something in the card saying that they will be receiving the magazine every month. (This is the easiest way out. Of course, my wife says that what you SHOULD do is buy this month’s magazine, so you don’t rock up empty handed).

And with magazines like “Oprah“, “Marie Claire” and “Cosmopolitan“, magazine subscriptions might just be the Mothers Day present with a difference that you’re looking for. I’ve used this as a gift for my wife, my mother-in-law AND my father-in-law, and I can tell you now, it’s a gift that is REALLY appreciated.

Oh, my father-in-law did not get a magazine subscription for Mothers Day (and he received a subscription to “Car” magazine). 😉

So, if you haven’t found a gift (or just an idea for a gift) for Mothers Day 2009 from the list above, then good luck. But hopefully this list has helped. And, once again, I’d love it if you could share some of your own ideas by leaving a comment below…

Another great gift idea is to give an alternative gift that makes a real difference to real people, facing very real problems in South Africa. Gifts such as fruit trees for a community orchard or a birth certificate for an orphaned child can be purchased at http://www.gifts4good.co.za
