Online Music Streaming Services

I am an avid music listener. And, because I spend most of my day in front of my laptop working from home, I listen to 99% of my music by streaming it from the internet. So, I think I have a pretty good idea what makes a good online music service and what doesn’t.

In future articles I’ll write about how you can use all this to have awesome music playing in your house, making music selection for parties so much easier.

Based in Paris (I believe) and probably the first to actually allow foreign countries to sign up, I love Deezer. I pay R60 a month (about $5) and it’s just plain easy to use. The selection is huge, and the quality is amazing.

This service has completely replaced my wife’s radio in the car. She streams the music from her app on her iPhone playing it over bluetooth. And, when she goes running, she listens to music on RadioTunes.

You don’t have to pay to get decent quality music, though if you’ve got decent bandwidth and some extra cash (about $10 a month or +/- R150 a month) then I would DEFINITELY subscibe.

A “sister site”  or a subsidiary of, or maybe even the original RadioTunes, who knows, but this is my personal favourite. I use it to play music depending on my mood, and how much work I’d like to get done.

The “DI” stands for “Digitally Imported”and this site plays dance/electronic music, and if you’re looking for any type of dance music, you’re sure to find it. The styles range from dubstep to trip-hop to 90’s dance and even Latino.

The benefit is, subscribing to either or RadioTunes gets you a subscription to both.

Google Play Music

I tried this subscription service, but I had to stop it after a couple of months. I just didn’t find it as easy to use as I expected. Even being the cheapest of the lot, trying to find tracks and/or play playlists of a specific style was just painful. I was upset about that, because I’m a huge Google fan. 🙂

Apple Music

I haven’t actually tried Apple Music yet. With so many to choose from, and the fact that I use an Android phone (LG G4 at the moment), I haven’t felt the urge to try out the service, even though you get a WHOPPING 3 months free trial. NOBODY offers that kind of deal these days.

Blue Mountain Lodge in Hazyview, Mpumalanga. WOW!!!

Everybody needs a break from the norm. Even if it’s just relaxing at home.

A few weeks ago it was my birthday and my wife treated me to a holiday in Hazyview, Mpumalanga. It’s near the Kruger National Park for those like me who didn’t know that.

When I say treated, I mean TREATED!

This place is AMAZING!!!

Obviously, you’re getting what you paid for, and it’s not cheap, but it is a 5 star holiday “resort” and I must say, it’s one of the few places I would say that actually deserve that rating!

Audiobooks Let You Read While Sitting In Traffic

If this article sounds like I’m trying to sell you the idea of AudioBooks, that’s because it is! I’ve tried to convince ALL my friends and family to start using Audio Books because I whole heartedly believe in them – please read on to see why…

How many hours a day do you sit in traffic?

Always Stuck In Traffic?!

For the average person, I’m guessing it’s about 1 hour to work, and 1 hour home. That’s about 10 hours a week!

Can you IMAGINE if you had 10 hours a week to read that book you’ve always wanted to read?

No stress while reading and driving

Can you IMAGINE no longer feeling like traffic is a waste of time?!

About 4 years ago I was asked to attend a week-long course that meant I would spend about 4 hours a day sitting in traffic. (For those people living in Johannesburg, I was travelling from Bedfordview to Pretoria during rush hour – ABSOLUTELY PAINFUL!!!).

On Monday evening, I got home and refused to go to bed until I had found a few audiobooks to listen to so that I could at least say that my time spent sitting in traffic was not wasted. And that is how I found the website

Holiday Club is a SCAM

Please note: This is MY PERSONAL opinion. By reading past this point, you agree that you are entitled to your own opinion, and will not judge me (or sue me) for recounting my own experience and telling you about other peoples’ experiences.

But PLEASE read until the end, and forward this article to everyone you know.

Ok, now that I have that out of the way, let me tell you why I think the Vacation Club are a bunch of con-artists.

If you EVER get phoned and told that you have won a prize for some competition you don’t even remember entering, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!

They will ask you to come pick up your prize and listen to a presentation. DO NOT GO!

NetFlorist Review –

A recent visitor to this site was looking for a review of NetFlorist, which, according to is “South Africa’s Largest Flower and Gifting Service“.

I’ve used them a couple of times, and both times for Valentine’s Day (which I mentioned in my “Gift ideas for Mothers Day in South Africa” article). Perhaps twice is not a massive amount, but I think it’s enough to give you an account of my experiences.
