By: jamie Most people in today’s world garden for pleasure. Although in the past a vegetable garden would have been used to feed the family, nowadays it’s just as easy to head down to the grocery store for your supply of potatoes, tomatoes and green beans.Throughout the years, gardening has gone from an activity of necessity to a creative and satisfying hobby that allows you to get some sunshine, put your hands in the dirt, and end with a great finished product. Much more than simply a source of vegetables or flowers, a garden today is almost a spiritual experience. And...

Here’s an interesting article I read that supplements my previous post about Planting Grass. Some of the highlights from the article are: Planning:“Climate: Make sure you choose the right type of grass for your climatic zone – enquire at your nearest nursery. Budget: You won’t only have to cough up for water and fertiliser, as well as petrol or electricity for the lawn mower – the prices of various grass types can also vary greatly, especially if you want to plant instant lawn. Find out if the price includes the delivery and planting of the lawn.”Planting...

Lighting your garden with Solar Lights

Posted by on Dec 19, 2005 in Garden, Home Improvement Tips | 14 comments

One nice and CHEAP way to light up your garden is to use Solar Powered Lights. These Solar Lights can be easy to install (put it together and stick it in the ground), and cost nothing once bought (unless you need to replace the batteries or bulbs, which shouldn’t happen very often). I bought a couple of solar lights for my garden, and they work like a charm. They’re cute little things that just illuminate a section of the garden. Your house will NOT look impressive with muddy footprints all over the place Make sure the bathrooms are clean and all stocked up on soap and sanitary goods (Toilet Paper and Towels)If you have...

Well, for some people, Fariy rings are cool. But to others, fairy rings are just toadstools in your garden, ruining the look of your lawn… And PLEASE remember (especially for those people with kids, or even pets), Toadstools ARE NOT MUSHROOMS! So don’t let you children eat them. My dog once had what seemed like an epileptic fit due to chewing on a toadstool. And, if you’re REALLY unlucky, you’ll have a very unappealing looking fungus called a puffball, which can grow to the size of a human head. So, what do people say about how to get rid of them? I’ve found 5...

Planting Grass

Ok. Here’s a useless piece of information that could be CRUCIAL… - Make sure the builders remove ALL rubble before laying down your grass. Otherwise, everytime you mow the lawn, your windows will be playing dodge-ball with the stones that are flying around. And, it’s a pain in the backside to have to remove the piles and piles of stones that just keep appearing. (and Anusol won’t be getting rid of these piles)… Of course, the gardening service won’t be too happy that they now have to keep fixing or repairing the broken windows. Another thing, try and get...
